Writing Portfolio

A sample of my writing...

My Christmas Carol --a young mother's vision helps her get through her first Christmas with baby twins. I wrote this back in 1991 to enter a bookstore's contest; the prize was 4 tickets to The Guthrie's performance of A Christmas Carol, which I desperately wanted to go see but we were too broke to buy tickets. I did win the contest!

Why I Won't Shoot the Ice Cream Truck --an essay I wrote when my twins were three, about my diminishing sense of control as a parent.

Surviving Bedrest -- after spending six weeks on bedrest in the hospital for pre-term labor with my twins, I felt like I was an expert on the subject. This article was published in American Baby magazine (my first national sale!).

Ringing in the New Year --just a fun piece of short fiction I wrote to read at a New Year's Eve party.

Internet Mom --my first experiences with the Internet back in the early 1990's, when it wasn't very common at all. This short essay was published in Welcome Home magazine.

What I'm Working on Now:

After several years of National Novel Writing Month (nanowrimo.org), I have several novel drafts.  I’m working on rewriting one of them and making the plot work.

Writing a holiday-oriented children’s book, fiction this time.

Self-publishing a book of poetry.  I’ve always wanted to try one of the print-on-demand services.

I have an idea for a card game that I've been meaning to work on, one for writers.

And, trying to make some money by writing for businesses… brochures, websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
