Theresa Jarosz Alberti

Education:

I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the College of St. Catherine with a B.A. in English Literature. As a member of The Loft in Minneapolis, I continue to take classes in fiction, kid lit, and poetry. And I've been lucky enough to study with fabulous writing teacher Natalie Goldberg ("Writing Down the Bones") many times over the last decade.

I’ve recently been on the other end of the education process and have taught a workshop at The Loft, a few writing classes for our church’s adult education program, and I’m checking out the possibility of involvement in the writers in the schools program.  I enjoy working with kids, and I’d get paid to get them excited about writing!

Publications, Books & Recognition:

Books:

"Out and About at the Planetarium," an educational children’s nonfiction book with Picture Window Books, published 2004.

“Climates,” an educational children’s nonfiction book with Capstone Press, published 2005.

“Vietnam ABCs,” an educational children’s nonfiction book with Picture Window Books, published in 2007.

I've had articles published in American Baby, Welcome Home and Radiance Magazine.

I received Honorable Mention in entering The Loft's Mentor Series program in 2002.

My poem "Moment" was published in Welcome Home magazine in January 2004.

Writing Experience:

I started writing when I was 10, under the creative guidance of my 4th grade teacher, Miss Mary Strand at St. Alphonsus School (if you're out there, Miss Strand, I'd love to connect with you again!). Back then I wrote imaginative stories and poems, school papers.

In the years since, I worked on my high school and college newspapers, took creative writing courses, and wrote and edited newsletters for The American Cancer Society and The Maud Hart Lovelace Society. I tried my hand at writing greeting cards (sold one verse!), did freelance copywriting for a few businesses, and wrote some magazine articles for publication (noted above).

Recently, I've been taking more classes in fiction and poetry, belong to two great writing groups, wrote three children's books (noted above), and have been writing poetry and fiction. Now I am officially "writing a novel" (yikes!),  working on a children’s fiction book, and trying to self-publish a book of poetry.  I am also interested in writing essays.
