--Alison McGhee's books are all wonderful. Rainlight, Shadow Baby, and Was it Beautiful?. Shadow Baby is my favorite, but they are all so touching and poignantly written. The books are somewhat connected, based on characters living in a small town in the Adirondacks. but each book can stand alone.
